About the position

As a Lead Model Validator at USAA, you will play a crucial role in implementing model risk validation oversight for high-risk and sophisticated models. This position involves conducting independent model validation control activities, ensuring compliance with risk and governance policies, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance model performance and mitigate risks. You will be responsible for producing validation reports, assessing model risks, and providing expert insights into model development and implementation processes.

Responsibilities

  • Implement model risk validation oversight for high-risk and sophisticated models.
  • Conduct independent model validation control activities for critical models.
  • Develop and execute validation testing plans using advanced modeling techniques.
  • Produce and deliver validation reports to management and stakeholders.
  • Assess model inherent risk ratings and materiality of model changes.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to enhance model governance and performance.
  • Peer-review model documentation and provide feedback to team members.
  • Support ML Ops with implementation testing and change logs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Data Science, Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • 8 years of related work experience in model validation, model development, or statistical analysis.
  • Strong programming skills in R, Python, SAS, Java, C, SQL, or similar languages.
  • Expertise in at least four statistical or predictive modeling approaches such as Unsupervised Learning, Time-Series Forecasting, or Neural Networks.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex quantitative concepts to senior leadership.

Nice-to-haves

  • US military experience or a military spouse/domestic partner.
  • Graduate degree in a quantitative subject area.
  • Experience in model validation within a regulated industry.
  • Experience in the fraud/financial crimes domain.
  • Experience partnering with vendors for model development.
