About the position

The Foster Care Family Services Director at Wolverine Human Services is responsible for overseeing the foster care program, ensuring compliance with licensing and contract standards, and leading a team to provide exceptional client care. This role involves strategic leadership, policy implementation, and collaboration with community partners to enhance service delivery and foster care practices.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, meet, or exceed all performance standards as identified by contract, licensing, COA, and Wolverine Human Services.
  • Direct supervision of Foster Care leadership and indirect supervision of all Foster Care staff.
  • Define and implement exceptional client care strategies that meet and exceed license and program requirements.
  • Represent WHS and influence emerging policy while serving on external committees and boards.
  • Provide leadership direction, support, and resources to hold direct reports accountable for client services.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to the executive management team.
  • Establish and ensure implementation of administrative and Foster Care policies and procedures.
  • Ensure Foster Care decisions are based on sound financial analysis and consistent with future growth and sustainability.
  • Challenge the status quo to produce new or better methods, processes, or policies that add value to the Agency.
  • Stay informed of advancements and opportunities necessary to maintain WHS's mission.
  • Attend relevant meetings with community partners.
  • Function as mandated reporter as required by the Michigan Child Protection Law.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree required in a related field.
  • Five years of experience in a similar organization, specifically in foster care and licensing for child welfare.
  • Five years of experience supervising and managing a coordinated community-based services team.
  • Extensive experience in developing and managing client-based community programs.
  • Deep understanding of licenses, contracts, policies, and laws pertaining to foster care and adoption programs.
  • Experience in developing, aligning, and implementing policy to meet federal, state, and local standards.
  • Ability to demonstrate project management skills; preferred certifications in project management and/or change management.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in managing multiple programs.
  • Strong organizational skills including assessing priorities, multi-tasking, meeting deadlines, and ensuring compliance.
  • Proven ability to recognize and implement opportunities for improvement that drive client outcomes and staff success.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
