About the position

Alabama Mentor, a part of the Sevita family, provides Residential and Treatment Foster Care services to youth who may be facing out-of-home placements, transitioning back into the family home or independent living alternatives, or involved in the juvenile justice system. In this role, you will design, develop, and deliver preservice education programs to Mentor foster parents. Members of the Continuing Education Team will focus on the Preservice milestone. This team will provide Preservice group education based on the requirements of the states they support, completing all education on a regular cycle (all Preservice education will be scheduled and repeated on a designated cycle cadence in a designated group setting). Members of this team will also work directly with the statewide recruitment team to develop, plan, and participate in recruitment activities throughout the state as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and conduct preservice education programs for Mentor foster parents.
  • Conduct regular reviews of program operations to ensure compliance with established standards, licensing requirements, and internal operating practices.
  • Facilitate education for families to prepare them to be effective foster parents of youth that may have experienced trauma.
  • Deliver instruction to groups using multiple modalities such as classroom, teleconferencing, web-based education, and computer-based education.
  • Collaborate with other internal experts in the center of excellence and quality improvement on education program delivery.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and record education activities and effectiveness; ensure ongoing feedback of education programs and modify programs as needed.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings.
  • Ensure that the education curriculum for subjects such as CPR, medication administration, and first aid meet local, state, and/or federal education requirements.
  • Evaluate and assist with the design of education materials such as manuals, handouts, course exercises, and visual aids.
  • Maintain education materials that are contemporary with licensing requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Plan and participate in statewide Mentor recruitment activities working directly with Family Evaluation Specialists.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree, as required by state.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
  • Ability to effectively plan, develop, deliver and evaluate education to groups of families and staff.
  • Ability to be certified in Trauma Informed Partnering for Safety (TIPS), Deciding Together (DT), Prudent Parenting, Sevita Clinical Model Trainer level approval, and CPR at a minimum.
