About the position

The Forklift (Rail Car Loader) Operator is responsible for operating forklifts and handling inventory in the rail car loading operation. This role involves ensuring the safe movement of traffic in and out of the loading area, securing rail cars for loading, and adhering to safety protocols and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklifts safely and efficiently in the rail car loading operation.
• Handle inventory and work in and around semi-trailers and rail cars.
• Understand and apply pedestrian and mobile equipment safety in the work area.
• Perform general housecleaning of the work area.
• Follow all safety procedures and SOPs related to distribution trailer loading operations.
• Complete employee safety orientation and all safety training programs.
• Report all safety incidents to team or group leaders.
• Use necessary PPE required in the plant work areas.
• Transport and stack materials safely and productively.
• Load board onto flatbed and cabana trailers properly.
• Ensure risers are removed from all bays when empty.
• Conduct pre-shift/walk around inspections of forklifts.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment such as cleaning, lubricating, and fueling forklifts.
• Complete inventory security in the loading process.
• Understand safety procedures on semi-trucks and trailers.
• Complete other job assignments as instructed by the Distribution Team Leader.
• Work overtime as needed for the business.

Requirements

• Previous industrial powered vehicle experience is a plus.
• Warehouse and shipping experience is a plus.
• Ability to handle (lift, push, pull) up to 50lbs.
• High school education or equivalent is required.
• Strong communication skills are necessary.
