About the position

The Michigan State Police (MSP) is seeking dedicated individuals for the position of Forensic Technician, with a focus on toxicology. This role is essential in supporting the agency's mission to provide comprehensive forensic services to law enforcement agencies across Michigan. As a Forensic Technician, you will be responsible for conducting various laboratory analyses, ensuring the integrity of evidence, and maintaining accurate records of all findings. The position requires a commitment to upholding the highest standards of scientific integrity and ethical conduct in all forensic activities. In this role, you will work closely with law enforcement personnel, providing expert analysis and testimony in court as needed. You will be expected to collaborate with other forensic professionals and contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory processes and protocols. Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory analyses of toxicological samples.
  • Maintain accurate records of laboratory findings and evidence handling.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies to provide forensic support.
  • Testify in court as an expert witness regarding forensic findings.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of laboratory protocols and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and quality assurance standards in the laboratory.

Requirements

  • Possession of an associate's degree in forensic science, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, or a related pure or applied science.
  • Forensic Technician 8: No specific type or amount of experience required.
  • Forensic Technician 9: One year of experience equivalent to a Forensic Technician 8.
  • Forensic Technician E10: Two years of experience equivalent to a Forensic Technician, including one year equivalent to a Forensic Technician 9.
  • Possession of a bachelor's degree or higher with 16 semester (24 term) credits in job-specific or related coursework may substitute for the education and experience requirements.
