Responsibilities

• Perform administrative and support functions to maintain analytical service.
• Acquire and maintain analytical proficiency in forensic firearms and tool mark analysis.
• Conduct forensic analysis of routine firearms and tool mark evidence utilizing approved Unit Test Methods after completing relevant training.
• Demonstrate communication skills and forensic science knowledge.
• Assist in preventative maintenance of laboratory instruments and safety equipment.
• Participate in continuing education and training programs in forensic firearms and tool mark evidence analysis.
• Comply with Standard Operating Procedures, Rules, Regulations, and Laboratory policies.
• Testify in court as an expert witness in forensic firearms and tool mark analysis.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher with natural and/or forensic science courses.
• 3 years of laboratory experience.
• Basic knowledge of firearms and ammunition components.
• Ability to perform complex scientific procedures in an unbiased manner following Unit Test Methods.
• Ability to effectively operate various computer systems and software.
• Ability to adhere to established laboratory safety practices.
• Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

• Basic knowledge of theory and practical operation of various scientific instrumentation and analytical techniques.
