About the position

The Food & Nutrition Services High School Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting the High School Manager in ensuring that each child has the opportunity to have a nutritious and economical meal. This role involves a variety of tasks including scheduling, training, supervising personnel, overseeing food preparation and service, maintaining financial records, and ensuring compliance with health regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, train, supervise, and direct the work of assigned personnel.
  • Oversee and assist with preparation and serving of several quality food choices.
  • Assist in maintaining all kitchen financial records, including deposits, inventories, forms, and reports.
  • Review financial reports for accuracy when assigned by the manager.
  • Check quality, quantity, and accuracy of weekly deliveries and sign invoices only after order verified.
  • Oversee storage and rotation of stock.
  • Assure compliance to Health Department Regulations.
  • Adhere to good safety practices.
  • Coordinate breakfast program.
  • Assist personnel with cashiering.
  • Demonstrate effective human relations and communication skills working in a courteous and cooperative manner with students and school and kitchen staff.
  • Help inform employees of all matters that concern them within the department and district on a continual basis.
  • Affirm the good work by employees and instruct where improvement is needed.
  • Help gather information about student food preferences by surveys, comments, and participation records and communicate these to the FNS Director.
  • Promote the objectives of the FNS Program with staff, students, and patrons.
  • Promote the reimbursable meals and offer items of wholesome nutrition for extra sales.
  • Attend district staff development opportunities to update skills.
  • Adhere to all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the completion of a high school diploma.
  • Experience in quantity food preparation and management.
  • Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
