About the position

The Food Safety & Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for the implementation and execution of quality and regulatory compliance programs to ensure the availability of safe, wholesome, quality ingredients and finished products to facilitate store operations. The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Specialist will develop strong relationships with cross-functional partners and work closely with external suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct product audits on new and existing items to measure compliance to specification requirements developed by Research & Development team.
  • Maintain quality and company product information databases and critical files.
  • Compile and report quality metrics on a periodic basis to key stakeholders.
  • Provide accurate product information to internal partners to respond to customer, media and other external organization inquiries.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot quality, safety, and regulatory issues arising from store team members, customers, stores, and regulators.
  • Implement corrective actions and procedure improvements to resolve supplier issues.
  • Respond to assigned complaint and take action as appropriate.
  • Document, implement and update quality operating procedures.
  • Assist with the review and/or updating of company operating procedures, training programs, resource manuals, standards manuals and operational tools related to safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist with the oversight of supplier and distributor quality programs to assure that quality, safety and regulatory compliance standards are met for ingredients and products.
  • Assist with assigned compliance issues and works with suppliers and distributors to resolve.
  • Assist with the execution of strategic objectives related to food safety, regulatory and internal compliance, and food safety challenges.
  • Complete recall and withdrawal activities to support effective recalls and withdrawals.
  • Develop, foster, and establish positive and professional relationships with Casey's team members.
  • Provide education to team members on food safety standards to comply with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Collect key performance indicator data and accurately documents all required food safety activities.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of food safety regulations and quality assurance processes.
  • Experience in conducting audits and inspections in a food production environment.
  • Ability to analyze data and compile reports for stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
  • Problem-solving skills to investigate and resolve quality and safety issues.

  • Experience with quality management systems and compliance programs.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and best practices in the food industry.
