About The Position

The General Manager Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) is responsible for the daily management of all activities of the FSQA department, including the implementation and execution of food safety programs, specification adherence, and product quality for products within their assigned facility. This includes monitoring, verification, and record-keeping associated with adherence to government regulations and internal food safety systems. Additionally, the FSQA General Manager will oversee departmental budgets, turnover, safety, and all special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • At least 4 years in a food manufacturing environment required, with a broad knowledge in one or more of the following areas: HACCP, USDA, GMP, and SSOPs.
  • Standard computer skills required.
  • Proficient computer skills capable of generating customer letters and spreadsheets.
  • Must be capable of mastering EIM, SAP, and warehouse inventory systems to provide support and training to plant FSQA and other Team Members.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, demonstrating the proven ability to correspond with all levels—from front line team members to corporate management.
  • Strong problem identification and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while interacting with various facets within the organization.
  • Serve as the plant liaison to USDA/FDA.
  • Must be willing and able to lift up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to stand on hard surface for up to 12 hours per day
  • Must work in cold/hot temperatures typically ranging from 30-90 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Must be able to work in wet environment
  • Repetitive bending, reaching, squatting, gripping, pushing and pulling
  • Must be able to reach high and low levels frequently
  • Ability to climb step ladders and or stairs
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed
  • Position will require Lock Out Tag Out certification
  • Must reside in the United States to be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all Tyson FSQA policies and procedures are followed.
  • Lead FSQA Supervisors and FSQA Technicians, including selection and training.
  • Verify production practices from raw material/live animal receiving through finished product quality and Food Safety Systems.
  • Support sanitation through monitoring of preoperational and operational sanitation.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the HACCP/HARPC & SSOP programs.
  • Ensure finished product conforms to customer product specifications and is properly labeled.
  • Report product issues and audit results to plant and corporate FSQA plant management, corporate sales, R&D, and operations.
  • Interact with customers and their agents for product showings, plant tours, and audits.
  • Conduct investigations and respond to quality-related customer complaints or complaint trends.
  • Monitor microbiological results, including bacterial swabs and shelf-life studies.
  • Participate in new product commercialization.
  • Manage crewing labor and attendance of the FSQA department.
