About the position

The Floral Clerk at Hy-Vee is responsible for providing exceptional customer service in the floral department, creating floral arrangements, and managing order placements. This role emphasizes teamwork and customer engagement, ensuring a pleasant shopping experience while maintaining the freshness and presentation of floral products.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
• Greets customers in a friendly manner and makes an effort to learn their names.
• Assists customers by escorting them to products, loading or unloading heavy items, and passing along customer suggestions.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides helpful service to callers.
• Assists customers with placing orders and completes the necessary paperwork.
• Prepares, finishes, and replenishes floral products, including arrangements and bouquets.
• Waters plants and prepares daily delivery lists.
• Sends and retrieves orders over the computer and reviews floral products for freshness.
• Unloads trucks, places products in storage, and checks in product.
• Maintains a clean and neat work area, including coolers and counters.
• Runs department registers and processes payments as applicable.
• Orders products and supplies as necessary and prices products for customers.

Requirements

• Less than High School education or six months of similar work experience.
• Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to file, post, and mail materials, and guide people.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a retail or customer service environment.
• Basic knowledge of floral arrangements and care.
