Floating Maintenance Technician

COMMUNITY HOUSING PARTNERS CORPChristiansburg, VA
$25 - $28Hybrid

About The Position

We’re looking for a skilled, adaptable Floating Maintenance Technician who thrives on variety, enjoys solving complex challenges, and takes pride in helping teams succeed across multiple properties. If you’re the kind of technician people call when others can’t figure it out, this could be the role for you. This isn’t a typical maintenance position where every day looks the same. As a Floating Maintenance Technician, you’ll travel throughout our portfolio supporting communities that need an experienced hand — whether that means stepping in during staffing shortages, helping prepare for inspections, tackling difficult repairs, or supporting large maintenance projects. You’ll have the opportunity to work independently while still being part of a supportive regional team, use and expand your skills across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, and more, become a trusted technical resource for on-site teams and leadership, play a direct role in improving property performance, resident satisfaction, and inspection readiness, and experience variety in your work instead of being tied to one location every day.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of maintenance experience (apartment maintenance preferred)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting, and general building systems
  • Experience using mobile devices and electronic work order systems
  • Ability to read technical documents and schematics
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Nice To Haves

  • EPA Universal, Type I, or Type II HVAC Certification
  • CAMT or similar apartment maintenance credentials
  • Formal trade training

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair complex maintenance issues
  • Complete work orders efficiently and professionally
  • Support communities during staffing gaps or high-demand periods
  • Assist with NSPIRE and safety inspections
  • Perform preventative maintenance and identify issues before they become costly problems
  • Coordinate with vendors and ensure work quality standards are met
  • Provide technical guidance and support to on-site maintenance teams
  • Help maintain safe, compliant, and resident-focused communities

Benefits

  • 30 days off in your first year
  • Competitive pay starting at $25 hr. + bonus potential
  • Benefits that start within 30 days — Medical, Dental, and Vision begin the 1st of the month after hire.
  • Paid maternity and paternity leave after 90 days
  • 403(b) plan with up to 5%; CHP contributes 3% automatically plus matches 2% of your contributions.
