About the position

The Fitness Instructor at YWCA of Lubbock is responsible for leading and motivating individuals and groups in various exercise activities, including cardiovascular workouts, strength training, and stretching. This role requires a high-energy and self-motivated individual who can create a positive and engaging environment for clients of all ages and skill levels. The instructor will ensure safety standards are met while providing an enjoyable exercise experience.

Responsibilities

• Teaches scheduled classes, ensuring they begin and end on time, including warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down.
• Instructs patrons on effective workout methods, explaining proper techniques and demonstrating exercises.
• Identifies different muscle groups and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles.
• Prepares appropriate equipment, music, and handouts for each class.
• Assists patrons, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for members and class participants.
• Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs.
• Ensures safety standards are met and department policies are adhered to.
• Reports class attendance to the Sports & Fitness Director daily or weekly.
• Performs related job duties as required.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Aquatics or land fitness instructor certification from a national organization (if applicable).
• Experience in aquatics or land fitness instruction.
• Very strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Professional appearance and mannerism at all times.
• Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings or weekends.
• Ability to pass a criminal history background check and FBI fingerprint check.
• Ability to relate well with a variety of populations.
