Southern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association (SSRAA) is seeking full-time fish culturists for the Burnett Inlet Hatchery, a remote facility located approximately 30 air miles from Wrangell, Alaska. This hatchery serves as a central incubation facility for summer and fall chum salmon. The position requires the selected candidate to live on-site in furnished subsidized rental housing, which includes utilities such as weekly mail and supply flights, telephone service, satellite internet, and accommodations for rest and relaxation in Wrangell or Ketchikan. The work primarily involves fish culture and basic maintenance duties at the hatchery, with the possibility of occasional assignments at a spring remote camp. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to foster healthy working relationships with co-workers and demonstrate a willingness to learn and share knowledge and skills. While previous experience in fish husbandry or a related field is preferred, SSRAA is open to training the right applicant. Candidates must be physically capable of standing and walking for extended periods, lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling weights of 50 lbs or more repeatedly, and working in inclement weather conditions, including inside around cold running water. The starting pay for this position is $20.69 per hour, depending on experience.
