About the position

The Controls and Avionics Solutions (CAS) business is experiencing unprecedented growth. Our two design centers in Endicott, New York and a new state of the art development center in Austin, Texas are the home for our next generation technical solutions. Engineers will develop flight and mission-critical products for more than 170 commercial and military customers. You will have the opportunity to help design and develop the next generation: Fly-By-Wire Flight Controls, Aircraft Engine Controls, Ground Vehicle Power Management Systems, Aircraft Electrification Systems, Advanced Air Mobility Systems, Autonomous Flight Systems, Flight Deck Systems, Cabin Management Systems, Weapon Control Systems, and Mission Systems for the world's most prominent commercial and military aircraft and vehicle manufacturers. Candidates for this position can expect to work in mid-size teams that are cooperative, dependable, and supportive, working both co-located in a hybrid environment and geographically distributed. This role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work and will take the form of a hybrid work schedule, with time split between working onsite and remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Provide functional leadership with focus in the areas of effectively staffing programs, developing personnel through training and mentoring them in ways to improve their skill base and their application of those skills
  • Support Product Team Leads with execution of project needs as necessary
  • Provide functional expertise and consultation as needed (including budget and schedule)
  • Develop Knowledge Books and standards to share and continuously improve our systems and software processes
  • Ensure company processes are being followed; Support new business pursuits, cost reductions, customer support, project leadership and process improvement
  • Develop mentor/training plans
  • Provide and maintain functional processes, procedures, and best practices
  • Meet Department budgets (Training, overhead, etc)
  • Collaboratively work with peers and PRG/PTL Leads to Staff projects appropriately
  • Provide resources and tools required by team
  • Ensure appropriate expectations/goals are in place for employees
  • Communication flow down (Unit meetings)
  • Performance and compensation management
  • Ensure a culture of Continuous improvement (lessons learned) is in place
  • Support New Business capture through effective task quoting

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline and 10+ years of related experience.
  • Familiarity and experience with flight, avionics, engine or industrial controls programs
  • Experience with Requirements Management (ie, DOORS) and Configuration Management (ie, Synergy) tools
  • Deep understanding of FPGA architecture and design tradeoffs
  • Experienced in all stages of FPGA and/or ASIC development including requirements management, RTL design, verification, synthesis, timing analysis, lab bring up/validation
  • Experience working within a team of FPGA Design and Design Verification engineers
  • Familiarity with product and systems safety
  • Experience with Model Based Development
  • Experience with Control Law and/or Built In Test development
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as DO-254, ARP4754
  • Previous experience in project leadership role or functional management
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve cost, cycle time, customer and engineering process objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, lead and motivate technical teams
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate and coordinate with other functions and customers
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Experience in full lifecycle system development including requirements, design, integration and verification
  • Knowledge of system development processes and procedures
  • Desire to continuously improve engineering processes and standards

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HW/SW integration
  • 2+ years of engineering management or project leadership experience
  • Previous experience leading engineering team of 10 or more
  • Knowledge of test/support equipment development
