About the position

The Firefighter 1 position with the State of Nevada involves managing, supervising, and participating in wildland fire suppression, prevention, and education. The role requires working as part of a team on fire and fuels crew modules, engaging in various functional areas of wildland fire and resource management, including wildfire prevention, suppression, rehabilitation, and public education. Candidates must possess the necessary qualifications and certifications to perform the job effectively and safely.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and participate in wildland fire suppression activities.
  • Conduct fire prevention and education programs.
  • Assist in equipment and facility maintenance.
  • Enforce forestry and fire laws.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and division regulations in fire protection programs.
  • Participate in fuels reduction treatments and natural resource restoration efforts.
  • Engage in public education regarding fire safety and prevention.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent education.
  • One year of firefighting experience.
  • Must be qualified as a NWCG Firefighter II (FFT2 or higher) at the time of application.
  • Must obtain a CDL Class B license within 3 years of hire.
  • Must pass a work capacity test at the arduous level prior to appointment and annually thereafter.
