About the position

The Fire Service Technician role at Johnson Controls involves diagnosing and repairing electronic fire alarm systems and related building system products. The position requires strong technical skills, customer service abilities, and the capacity to work in various physical environments. Technicians will receive service calls, troubleshoot issues, and ensure customer satisfaction while adhering to safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center and ascertain equipment/system problems.
  • Diagnose problems and perform service and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and related products.
  • Follow troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals and bulletins for repairs.
  • Service, troubleshoot, and install various manufacturers' Fire & Life Safety systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and operational manuals.
  • Exhibit excellent customer service skills and communicate with district staff and customers.
  • Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices.
  • Obtain customer signatures upon completing service call assignments.
  • Participate in a scheduled On-call rotation.
  • Help train or mentor others on the service team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of documented experience in low voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety systems.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints and operational/product manuals.
  • Knowledge of test equipment, multi-meter, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Capable of performing physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Able to work in unusual positions such as climbing ladders and working in crawl spaces.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends.
  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service.
  • Maintain truck inventory for timely customer response.
  • Ability to adhere to safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills and a positive attitude.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and meet company driving record requirements.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment background and drug test.
  • Retain any licenses required by National, State, and Local codes.
  • Completion of SimplexGrinnell 4120 Network training within 12 months.
