We are seeking an entrepreneurial, dynamic, innovative, and quality-oriented Fire Protection Engineer (at least five years) to join our team of professionals! Our office is willing to train the right individual in this growing discipline. Coffman Engineers is seeking an engineer who is passionate about their craft, wants to work on a high-functioning team, and looking for an environment that promotes professional growth. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, have a desire to work and grow with a multi-discipline engineering team, and be willing to have fun. You would be providing our clients with smoke control analysis and special inspection, fire resistant construction analysis, automatic suppression system design, fire detection, alarm and mass notification system design, life-safety code analysis, egress analysis, as well as general fire protection and life safety concepts and research. The position is hybrid where the staff are in-person three days a week (minimum) and have the option to work remotely two days a week. The optional remote workdays of the week are currently Thursday and Friday. These guidelines are reassessed periodically.

Responsibilities

  • Be a positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale.
  • Utilize computer skills necessary for daily activities, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, simple graphics, fire dynamic simulation, and a working knowledge of computer aided drafting.
  • Manage day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients while utilizing experience and technology to meet expectations.
  • Perform research and documentation for internal and external distribution.
  • Analyze existing fire protection systems; design new fire protection systems including suppression systems, fire detection, fire alarm and mass notification systems.
  • Assess and interpret building and fire codes.
  • Develop project management skills for managing internal projects as well as external client.
  • Attend and participate in local and national professional organizations, such as SFPE.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from accredited college or university in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Sciences, or related engineering field.
  • NICET level III / IV, EIT, or PE.
  • Minimum five years of experience in the fire protection engineering/consulting profession.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience coordinating with a multi-discipline design team.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, and AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience with CONTAM, fire dynamic simulation, Pathfinder, and/or other fire protection engineering modeling software.
  • Experience with managing day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients utilizing experience and technology to meet expectations.
  • Experience attending and participating in local professional organizations, such as SFPE.
  • Experience performing building and fire code analysis and code interpretations.
  • Experience developing engineering judgements for code alternatives.
  • Have or be developing an 'area of expertise' within fire protection engineering.
  • Experience designing fire protection systems including suppression systems, fire detection, alarm and communication systems and performing analysis of existing fire protection systems.
  • Possess project management skills for managing internal projects as well as external client needs.
  • Experience with Energy Storage Systems.

Benefits

  • Approximate Base Salary - $90,000 -145,000 annually based on experience.
  • Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate.
