About the position

This is a new hiring process. All applications submitted to a previous Job Control number will be considered if submitted on or before May 29, 2025 for one last hiring round. Responsibilities

  • Operate fire apparatus during wildland and structural fire-fighting operations.
  • Lead an assigned crew in the performance of fire-fighting duties.
  • Maintain and make minor repairs on vehicles, equipment, and the fire stations.
  • Perform fire prevention tasks.
  • Perform paramedic duties in emergency medical situations as part of a paramedic team.
  • Drive and operate fire apparatus such as pumper, water tank, or rescue trucks.
  • Make reports on the operation of equipment.
  • Use maps and operate two-way radio as necessary.
  • Act as fire captain relief as needed.
  • Assist in training crews to fight fire efficiently and safely.
  • Check, clean, and polish trucks.
  • Perform general station maintenance and repair work, especially during non-fire season.
  • Assist in building roads, trails, telephone lines, and minor structures.
  • Make fire law inspections and investigate fire causes.
  • Prepare and present fire prevention programs to the public.
  • Keep records and prepare reports.
  • Render emergency medical assistance, including CPR and defibrillation.
  • Lift and transport injured persons and administer intravenous saline, glucose, and volume-expanding agents.
  • Obtain blood for laboratory analysis and interpret cardiac arrhythmias.
  • Perform pulmonary ventilation and administer drugs.
  • Drive rescue vehicles under emergency conditions.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license of the appropriate class.
  • Must possess a valid California Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (EMT - P) card.
  • Must have a valid Cal-JAC CPAT card.
  • Must pass medical clearances under the Respiratory Protection Program.
  • Must be able to obtain accreditation from Local Emergency Medical Services Authority (LEMSA) for assigned work location.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in firefighting and emergency medical response.
  • Ability to work in remote areas and under physically demanding conditions.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays.

  • $2053 - $2605 Extended Duty Week Compensation (paid every 4 weeks)
  • $250 - $6000 Paramedic Bonus (paid every November; amount based on months worked)
