About the position

Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities. This position is responsible for the accurate and timely output of financial data from the Financial Management Information System (FMIS) and providing administrative assistance to the department. The incumbent will serve as or assist the institution Certifying Officer with primary responsibility for approving and certifying payments, monitoring/reviewing the processing of all obligations for accuracy and timeliness, and analyzing obligation documents to determine validity of payment vouchers and proper classification of the obligations. Additionally, the role includes conducting training for accounting technicians in policy, regulations, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, while maintaining the security of the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely output of financial data from the Financial Management Information System (FMIS).
  • Provide administrative assistance to the department.
  • Serve as or assist the institution Certifying Officer with primary responsibility for approving and certifying payments.
  • Monitor/review the processing of all obligations for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Analyze obligation documents to determine validity of payment vouchers and proper classification of the obligations.
  • Conduct formal and informal training to accounting technicians in policy, regulations, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Maintain security of the institution.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is Required.
  • Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level.
  • Experience with accounting and budgeting principles, concepts, theories and practices, and financial reporting and standards for federal agencies.
  • Knowledge of appropriation laws as they apply to Federal Government obligations and payments.
