About the position

The Financial Counselor position at Porter-Starke CFS is essential for ensuring accurate billing and collection processes for client services. This role involves reviewing patient information, verifying insurance eligibility, and assisting patients with their insurance coverage inquiries. The position offers hybrid work options after training, allowing for a blend of in-office and remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Review all admitting paperwork scanned into the electronic medical record (EMR) system for new patients.
  • Check for duplicate patient IDs and review all data in EMR for new patients.
  • For selected departments, review and enter all HAP associated data.
  • Contact insurance carriers to obtain insurance benefits and initial authorizations.
  • Enter all insurance and authorization information into the patient's account in the Accumed practice management system.
  • Verify Medicaid eligibility weekly for all patients currently eligible for Medicaid and for all self-pay only patients.
  • Update the patient's insurance profile and transfer all claims to the appropriate payor when a patient becomes eligible for Medicaid.
  • Communicate changes in funding to all of the patient's program areas when notified of changes in Medicaid eligibility.
  • Re-verify insurance benefits and authorizations for patients transferred or referred by staff.
  • Communicate to front desk staff when a patient's insurance has lapsed and follow up with new insurance and authorization information.
  • Assist patients in examining their insurance coverage to determine allowable services and co-payments.
  • Assist staff at satellite offices with insurance questions or problems.
  • Handle customer and insurance representative inquiries in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Participate in the telephone rotation and assist with inquiries at the Client Financial Services window when needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D is required.
  • A certificate or degree from a vocational or technical school preferred.
  • One to three years related experience and/or training is preferred.
