The counselor is accountable for resolving front-end edits and rejections, ensuring effective communication with both internal and external customers, and may require flexibility in staffing across different practices.

Responsibilities

• Enter charges and apply coding/billing rules.
• Maximize collections and verify insurance.
• Obtain authorizations for services and review patient account details.
• Provide financial counseling to patients.
• Resolve front-end edits, rejections, and information requests.
• Interact directly with internal and external customers of the practice.
• Float to other UFHP practices or adjust work hours as needed.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Two years of business/financial/physician practice experience, preferably related to patient accounts and collections.
• Knowledge of CPT and diagnosis coding preferred.
• Four-year degree may substitute for two years of financial/physician office experience.
• EPIC system knowledge preferred.
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills required.
• Comfortable collecting payments and counseling patients regarding financial matters.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize responsibilities, and function in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

• Associate degree or equivalent coursework may substitute for one year of required experience.
