About The Position

As Agilec continues to grow, we are seeking a Financial Analyst to support our expanding programs and financial operations. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Financial Analyst plays a key role in supporting Agilec’s financial operations, program funding oversight, and reporting requirements. This role is responsible for monitoring and reporting on program funding, preparing financial statements, and delivering financial analysis to support organizational decision-making and program viability. The Financial Analyst collaborates closely with Project Directors (PDs), Program Managers (PMs), and leadership to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and consistency of financial information and to support funded programs and organizational performance. This role may be performed remotely, with occasional attendance required at the Agilec Courtice office. This posting is intended to fill an existing vacancy. Agilec does not use AI in its hiring process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or commerce from a recognized Canadian Institute, or its equivalent.
  • CPA designation or working towards designation.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in general accounting, financial planning, and analysis.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and supporting full-cycle accounting processes.
  • Experience working with budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Experience in program-based, project-based, or government-funded environments is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting practices.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., AccPac or similar ERP systems) and payroll systems (e.g., ADP Workforce Now).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; proficiency in Word and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality and handling sensitive financial information.
  • Ability to travel to Agilec offices as required; access to a reliable vehicle is required.
  • Must provide a clear Enhanced Police Check (Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check).
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct financial planning, analysis, and reporting to support organizational and program decision-making.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including variance analysis and interpretation.
  • Develop cost models, forecasts, and “what-if” scenarios to assess program and project viability.
  • Analyze financial performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities for cost optimization.
  • Allocate cost centres and support the development of general ledger structures for new business initiatives.
  • Support continuous improvement of financial processes, systems, and reporting tools.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and financial statement preparation.
  • Perform account reconciliations (including Accounts Receivable and general ledger accounts) to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Ensure proper cut-offs, accruals, and revenue/expense recognition in accordance with GAAP.
  • Monitor and report on program funding, including performance-based funding and client financial supports.
  • Prepare project-based financial reports, including claims, reimbursements, and funder-specific reporting.
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analysis in response to funder and internal requests.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in funding requests, claims, and financial records.
  • Collaborate with PDs and PMs to develop and manage program budgets and forecasts.
  • Review and analyze program financial results against targets, providing insights into performance and sustainability.
  • Support the financial administration of projects, including costing structures, budgeting, and alignment with accounting systems.
  • Support financial components of proposals, bids, and RFP submissions for new programs and funding opportunities.
  • Monitor funds generated by operations to assess profitability and identify opportunities for financial optimization.
  • Generate KPI and operational performance reports to support leadership decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with funding agreements, reporting requirements, and audit standards.
  • Maintain accurate financial documentation to support internal and external audits.
  • Assist with audit processes by preparing required documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Identify and resolve financial issues proactively, ensuring data accuracy and reliability.
  • Support onboarding and training of managers on financial processes and reporting expectations.
