About the position

The Financial Aid Counselor at Arizona State University plays a crucial role in advising students and their families about the financial aid process, eligibility, and available award programs. This position involves conducting presentations, participating in recruitment activities, and providing comprehensive counseling to ensure students can access the financial resources necessary for their education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive financial aid counseling to students and families via in-person, phone, and email interactions.
  • Customize advice based on each student's needs and circumstances, including professional judgment for unusual/mitigating circumstances.
  • Proactively reach out to students to support retention and answer questions regarding financial aid programs and eligibility.
  • Prepare and present financial aid information for federal aid, scholarships, employment, and grants to various campus groups and events.
  • Participate in recruitment and retention activities such as orientations and information sessions.
  • Process financial aid files and related documentation with a high level of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with students, lenders, employers, donors, guarantee agencies, and other staff to resolve any issues related to financial aid.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree AND one year experience of related experience; OR, three years of experience in financial aid or student counseling; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal Title IV financial aid programs, eligibility requirements, and regulations.
  • Experience in automated processing systems and general computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Effective critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and a commitment to customer service excellence.
