About the position

Orbital Engineering is seeking a Field Technician to join the Construction Coordinator Program based out of Fort Wayne, Indiana. The role will entail planning and coordinating construction activities for natural gas smart meter projects to ensure the goals and objectives of the project are accomplished within the project schedule and budget constraints. Each Coordinator is assigned to one specific project for an extended period of time, with the assigned project area potentially located anywhere within the client's service territory. Candidates should possess Natural Gas, Utility Meter, Wireless Communications, or similar pipeline or utility field experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safety oversight to ensure compliance with all safety procedures at the site.
  • Report safety compliance issues and safety incidents to the client's construction manager and Orbital supervisor.
  • Work with construction supervision and on-site safety personnel to stop unsafe construction activities.
  • Participate in construction activity planning, pre-construction drawing reviews, and overall constructability reviews.
  • Inspect construction site and complete pre-construction checklist tasks.
  • Ensure necessary permits and site/job specific plans are in place, signed, and posted at the job site.
  • Inspect work during construction to ensure compliance with safety and environmental policies.
  • Manage communication with construction crew(s), client project manager, and engineering to resolve queries.
  • Identify field-purchased material needs and communicate those needs to the client Construction Manager.
  • Order materials and rental equipment as necessary and coordinate deliveries.
  • Inventory materials and identify shortages to prevent delays in schedule.
  • Prepare Daily Log Reports indicating project progression and compliance.
  • Maintain redline construction drawing markups, complete weekly safety audits, and communicate scope changes.
  • Occasionally climb ladders and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 Years Relevant Construction / Maintenance Experience.
  • Ability to pass a post-offer drug and alcohol test in compliance with Federal regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management or similar.
  • Experience in natural gas transmission or distribution.
  • Experience in Commercial / Industrial Construction or management.
  • Background in structural, mechanical, or electrical construction/engineering.
  • Familiarity with construction prints/drawings.
  • OSHA 10 hour and MEA specific training.
  • Strong written and verbal communication capabilities.
  • Competence in basic computer programs (Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe).
  • Organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work well in a group setting and manage simultaneous tasks.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
