About the position

If you are a Field Service Technician looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson has an opportunity for you! Based in our Huntsville, Alabama location, you will part of the team that services pressure relief valves for nuclear power plants. You will be responsible for the inspection, refurbishing/repair and testing of pressure relief, line valves, and related equipment. Please Note: This position requires significant travel is in the 40% range to include overtime, weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Perform service activities in house, at operating nuclear power plants and at outside repair/testing facilities.
  • Perform service work to include as found testing, disassembly, cleaning, as found inspection, lapping, assembly, testing, and final inspection on safety relief valves and other styles of valves.
  • Perform testing to the applicable valve repair or in-service testing codes, standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Use calibrated measuring and test equipment (M&TE) such as calipers, depth mics and gauges.
  • Experience daily physical demands to include extended periods of time standing and walking, working at elevated heights, lifting, climbing, kneeling, crouching, bending, and handling heavy tools and equipment as required.
  • Recommend purchase of material, equipment and special tooling for repairs.
  • Advise and assist sales, engineering and other departments concerning technical aspects of repair valves and replacement parts.
  • Support our Mansfield MA site assisting with assembly and performance of production or engineering steam, air or water tests on various type valves, including prototypes for special customer applications and engineering proficiency.
  • Conduct production and engineering testing with high-pressure test facility and related equipment.

Requirements

  • High school or GED
  • 3+ years' direct experience with document control
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Familiarity with standard methodologies in the industry
  • Familiarity with machining drawings
  • Possess a mechanical ability and skill
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently and efficiently, and meet scheduled deadlines
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Windchill, Oracle or similar software and ERP systems

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates Degree in Engineering, technical military experience, or 3 plus years of related work experience.
  • Strong preference to those with safety relief valves and line valves products experience or other highly engineered product experience.
  • Familiarity with Nuclear Quality Assurance Programs, ASME standards and/or National Board Inspection Code is a plus.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and interpret machining drawing
  • Technical writing skills
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical control systems and experience with high pressure test facility systems and the ability to operate, maintain and repair these systems.
