About the position

Trident Civil specializes in heavy construction projects, including site work, roadways, utilities, pump stations, and structures. Our projects range in scope from residential neighborhoods to commercial development, VDOT, municipal utility rehabilitation, and city pump stations. The Field Engineer will assist the Project Team with safety administration, monitor all work for safety compliance, maintain project safety files, and review the project schedule for activities requiring special safety measures. The role involves engaging in site layout, cost estimating, construction planning, scheduling, material procurement, quality control, and job site safety. Additionally, the Field Engineer will perform quantity tracking, initiate progress and final payments, prepare daily reports, provide document control, assist in preparing final records, coordinate subcontractor work, and document important transactions related to contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Team with safety administration and monitor work for safety compliance.
  • Maintain project safety files and review project schedules for activities requiring special safety measures.
  • Engage in site layout, cost estimating, construction planning, scheduling, material procurement, quality control, and job site safety.
  • Perform quantity tracking and cost coding to analyze productivity and forecast job costs accurately.
  • Initiate progress and final payments with owners and subcontractors.
  • Prepare daily reports related to crews, progress, and issues.
  • Provide document control for correspondence, submittals, RFI's, etc.
  • Assist in preparing final records for the project, including as-builts.
  • Work with the foreman to ensure structures are built according to contract requirements.
  • Coordinate and monitor the work of subcontractors.
  • Establish and maintain basic control logs for submittals, change orders, etc.
  • Prepare project correspondence and requests for information.
  • Document important transactions, agreements, delays, or events relating to contracts.
  • Assist the Project Team in pricing, negotiating, and collecting for all change orders and extra work.
  • Develop and monitor/updates project schedules, including resource and/or cost coding.
  • Assist with project cost coding and quantity reporting for accurate reports.
  • Gather material receiving and subcontractor progress information.
  • Prepare pay quantities summaries.
  • Interpret crew cost, man-hour, and productivity budgets.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, related major, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of construction management experience in estimating, operations, and/or engineering required.
  • FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) certification desirable.
  • OSHA 30 hours required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Continuing education in construction is highly desirable.
