About the position

The Field Chemist position at ACTenviro involves sorting and transporting hazardous, non-hazardous waste, and biowaste while adhering to safety protocols. The role requires interfacing with professionals in the Biotechnology and Semiconductor industries and demands previous field chemist experience. The position emphasizes compliance with federal and state regulations regarding hazardous waste disposal and requires effective communication with clients.

Responsibilities

  • Understand Federal/State EPA requirements for hazardous waste disposal
  • Ship waste according to DOT requirements
  • Manage chemicals based on physical and chemical properties for proper disposal
  • Package hazardous waste to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance
  • Assign proper waste codes to all materials designated for disposal
  • Inventory chemicals for proper disposal or for HMBP
  • Assist in characterizing materials for clients
  • Develop good client relations through effective communication
  • Perform small chemical moves and lab packs
  • Conduct laboratory decontamination and onsite hazardous waste management services
  • Inspect staging, accumulating, and storage areas for compliance
  • Oversee inspections of storage areas for leaks or spills
  • Inspect drums for compliance with labeling regulations
  • Collect, segregate, and package waste chemicals for disposal
  • Sample new waste streams needing analytical testing
  • Prepare tracking paperwork and waste tracking reports
  • Generate packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restriction notifications
  • Lead technicians or support project managers in hazardous waste removal

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science or 4 years' experience in the hazardous waste industry
  • Previous field chemist experience required
  • Ability to obtain a Class B/C License with hazmat endorsement
  • Successfully completed HAZWOPER 40 hour certification
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background screen, physical, and drug-screen

  • Knowledge of the hazardous waste industry with EPA, DOT, and applicable state and local regulations
  • Detailed oriented and able to multi-task
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with computers
