About the position

The Field Buyer I position at Builders FirstSource involves procuring products, materials, and services under general supervision. The role focuses on troubleshooting procurement issues, expediting orders, and maintaining strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to meet production and customer needs. The buyer will utilize inventory planning tools to manage allocation and replenishment processes effectively.

Responsibilities

• Purchase assigned products by contacting vendors and suppliers for information on product, price, availability, and delivery time.
• Assist in evaluating goods and services by analyzing competitor pricing strategies and tracking orders.
• Ensure all products are received in condition consistent with original requests and resolve issues concerning materials and services.
• Coordinate returns and replacements of products and generate appropriate paperwork for inventory tracking and accounting purposes.
• Address customer service concerns from suppliers, field operations, and cross-functional departments.
• Assist operations with sourcing specialty items, freight/carrier information, order status, and timely processing of orders.
• Maintain department files related to vendors, bids, quotes, and correspondence.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• One (1) year purchasing experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of material management and procurement functions.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• General understanding of inventory planning tools and ERP purchase to pay requirements.
• Good negotiating skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, ERP System, and inventory planning tools.
