About the position
The Fiber Optic Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic and coaxial cable systems. This role involves running fiber optic cables into buildings, terminating fiber connections, performing tower work, and ensuring the integrity of network connections through testing and repairs. The technician plays a crucial role in maintaining high-speed data and communication networks across various environments.
Responsibilities
- Running fiber optic cables from external sources into buildings.
- Terminating fiber ends and attaching connectors using specialized tools.
- Climbing communication towers to install, maintain, or repair equipment.
- Installing various types of cables, including fiber optic and coaxial cables.
- Using tools like OTDR to test and troubleshoot fiber connections.
- Performing maintenance on ground-level and tower equipment.
Requirements
- Experience in fiber optic termination and installation.
- Ability to climb communication towers and work at heights.
- Familiarity with network testing equipment such as OTDR.
- Knowledge of cable installation techniques in various environments.
