About the position

The Fiber Optic Technician role is an independent contractor position focused on supporting network construction efforts for Webpass. This includes the installation and maintenance of fiber optic and copper cabling, as well as troubleshooting and testing connections for both residential and commercial customers. The technician will work collaboratively with a team to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to a high standard of workmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Support Webpass network construction efforts, including installation of new equipment and maintenance of existing equipment.
  • Complete basic network construction tasks involving twisted pair copper cabling and fiber optic cables.
  • Install radio mounts and point microwave point-to-point radios.
  • Upgrade existing equipment as necessary.
  • Test and troubleshoot connections with limited guidance for residential and commercial customers.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and partners during project execution.
  • Perform residential in-home customer installation work as needed.
  • Participate in on-call rotations as required.

Requirements

  • 1+ year of network construction and/or fiber splicing experience installing, repairing, and testing fiber and twisted pair copper cabling.
  • 1+ year of experience pulling, terminating, and testing twisted pair copper cabling and fiber optics in residential and commercial environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting Ethernet network issues related to routers, switches, and hubs.
  • Experience with rack and stack work, assembling server racks, telecom closet work, and patch panels.
  • Ability to terminate fiber optic cable utilizing a variety of connectors; experience using fusion splicers.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of Copper BICSI 1 and Fiber 1 certifications.
  • Solid attention to detail.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
