About the position

The Farm Irrigation Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing farm irrigation systems and components. This role involves ensuring compliance with TNRCC regulations, maintaining accurate records, and coordinating irrigation activities with farming operations. The technician will also be involved in the operation of heavy equipment and farm machinery, as well as performing related duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain and repair irrigation system components such as electrical center pivot systems, surface irrigation, flow meters, air vents, flush valves, etc.
  • Operate and maintain complex pumping and pipeline systems.
  • Closely monitor all irrigation system operations, making adjustments or changes as necessary.
  • Comply with all TNRCC permit regulations and maintain records required by TNRCC regulations.
  • Calculate application rates, acreage, flows, and volumes, following the water balance plan.
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment used in the construction and repair of dams, borders, unpaved roads, pivot tracks, etc.
  • Operate a variety of farm machinery used in cultivation and harvesting of agricultural crops.
  • Operate, set, and maintain spray equipment used for pesticide applications.
  • Coordinate irrigation activities with farming activities.
  • Maintain inventory of parts and supplies needed on a regular basis.
  • Rotate weekend duty and on-call duty, working Saturday and Sunday during weekend duty and being available on an on-call basis for the week prior to weekend duty.
  • Notify supervisor immediately of potential TNRCC permit violations.
  • Keep supervisor informed of the condition of equipment and machinery used on the site.
  • Coordinate activities with others.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 3 years of farm labor experience including work with irrigation systems.
  • Valid Current Driver's License.
  • Physical Exam Required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of irrigation systems, pumps, pipelines, valves, flow meters, farm machinery, and earth moving equipment.
  • Knowledge of computer programs and software.
