About the position

The Family Violence Victim Advocate (FVVA) plays a crucial role in supporting domestic violence victims within the Superior Court system. This position involves advocating for victims' rights, providing safety planning, crisis counseling, and assisting them in navigating the complexities of the criminal justice system. The FVVA employs a trauma-informed approach to ensure victims receive the necessary support and resources while collaborating with various court departments and law enforcement agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate for the rights of domestic violence victims participating in court processes.
  • Provide safety planning, crisis counseling, and assistance with the criminal justice system.
  • Utilize a trauma-informed approach to help victims understand domestic violence dynamics.
  • Collaborate with the State Attorney's office, family services, and other court departments to communicate victims' concerns.
  • Monitor court proceedings to ensure proper participation of victims.
  • Conduct home visits with domestic violence liaison to ensure victim safety.
  • Manage cases related to domestic violence crimes while maintaining client safety.
  • Attend required meetings and provide in-service presentations regarding victim rights and resources.
  • Complete referrals for clients to other departments or outside services as needed.
  • Document client and court notes and input them into the appropriate database.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Services, or a related field.
  • Two plus years of case management experience in a social service environment or criminal court system.
  • Background in non-profit organizations is a plus.
  • Previous experience with domestic violence is a plus.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
  • Strong customer focus with good active listening skills.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • High ethical standards and values.
  • Ability to build and manage relationships effectively.
  • Attention to detail, time management, and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Docs, and Google Calendar.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify solutions to problems.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, agility, adaptability, and ability to multi-task.
