About the position

We are seeking caring individuals to join our team as Family Support Specialists. In this role, you will work on supporting and empowering individuals and families to overcome life's challenges by providing quality services in Pottawattamie and surrounding counties, including Fremont and Mills. The position involves providing in-home intervention to children and their families utilizing skill-based, evidence-based practices to help families implement solutions to problems and strengthen their overall family dynamics. You will act as a resource, provider, and advocate for families to promote child welfare, ensuring that you maintain professionalism through role modeling and respect. As a Family Support Specialist, you will utilize collaborative documentation and develop effective working relationships with community partners, including the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), medical providers, parent partners, lawyers, therapists, law enforcement staff, school officials, neighbors, fictive kin, emotional supports, and referral sources. It is essential to maintain an appropriate level of direct contact with families per program requirements and remain available to families 24/7 for crisis intervention as needed. You will also be responsible for reporting and documenting emergencies and critical incidents involving clients or staff, as well as participating actively in individual, group, and organizational supervision and training. This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent time management skills, and the ability to work independently. Knowledge of community resources and service providers in the geographical area is crucial, as is the ability to maintain on-call availability to respond to crises. The work environment is hybrid, allowing for flexibility in scheduling while ensuring that you are available to provide necessary support to families in need.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-home intervention to children and their families utilizing skill-based, evidence-based practices.

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with community partners including DHHS, medical providers, and school officials.

  • Remain available to families 24/7 for crisis intervention as needed.
  • Ensure professionalism through role modeling and respect.
  • Utilize own vehicle to travel to work destinations and transport youth as authorized.
  • Report and document emergencies and critical incidents involving clients or staff.
  • Participate actively in individual, group, and organizational supervision/training.

Requirements

  • Associate of Arts degree
  • Two years of full-time experience in human services
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of community resources and service providers in the geographical area
  • Maintain on-call availability as needed to respond to crisis.

Nice-to-haves
