About the position

The Family Specialist plays a crucial role in providing community-based support services to children and families. This position requires a strong understanding of social work principles and the ability to work independently while collaborating with a treatment team. The Family Specialist is responsible for case management, advocating for families, and ensuring the delivery of appropriate services to meet the needs of children and families in their care. This role may involve working in foster care and family preservation programming, requiring sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic factors affecting the service population.

Responsibilities

  • Develop conceptualization for each assigned case in conjunction with the treatment team under the guidance of the Clinical Supervisor.
  • Attend and represent Josiah White's at review hearings and child and family team meetings, making objective recommendations to the court and team.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans for each assigned child/family in consultation with placing agency workers and program supervisors.
  • Pursue case goals utilizing community supports, resource family life, supplemental counseling, psychiatric services, and therapeutic activities.
  • Regularly evaluate child/family progress and meet with the treatment team to review cases periodically.
  • Advocate for child and family's needs by identifying service gaps and community resources.
  • Maintain documentation consistent with accreditation and Department of Child Services treatment standards.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with resource families and provide feedback on their therapeutic efforts.
  • Facilitate training and activities for resource families and children.
  • Prepare foster children for identified permanency goals in collaboration with service providers.
  • Provide skills training to assist families with parenting, budgeting, and accessing community resources.
  • Construct working relationships with placing agency workers through consistent communication regarding case progress.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Sociology, Human/Social Services, Human Development and Life Studies, Family and Consumer Sciences, or Child Development with three years of experience in community-based support services.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in any field with five years of relevant experience in community-based support services.
  • Valid driver's license with no restrictions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in case management and community resource coordination.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based family treatment models.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
