BASIC FUNCTION: The Safety Manager provides day-to-day oversight and coordination of Impending Danger Plans for families participating in the Intact Family Services Program through the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). This position delivers trauma-informed, family-centered services that promote child safety, family stability, and permanency outcomes while ensuring compliance with agency and DCFS requirements. The Safety Manager coordinates services and resources, monitors safety plan effectiveness, collaborates with DCFS and community providers, and supports families through crisis intervention and ongoing safety management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited college or university with a program approved by the Council on Social Work Education or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to social welfare with one year of subsequent experience in social welfare.
  • Knowledge of and skills necessary to apply the principles of child welfare to specific cases.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and individual differences in ability, personality, interests, learning and motivation.
  • Ability to establish rapport, communicate effectively, maintain consistency and boundaries with and effectively motivate various client populations.
  • Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Outlook and Word, as well as the ability to learn DCFS documentation software.
  • Willingness and ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed to meet the needs of the agency and the families we serve.
  • Demonstrated competence in serving a culturally diverse population. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse workforce.
  • Good physical and emotional health, including the physical ability to maintain the safety and well-being of children for whom there is responsibility.
  • Must pass necessary background checks.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for job responsibilities, including the ability drive distances to enter the homes of families in the service area and throughout the state of Illinois, a valid Illinois driver’s license that has not been revoked or suspended within the past three years, and use of a personal vehicle with adequate insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, monitor, and manage Impending Danger Plans to ensure child safety, family stabilization, and timely implementation of safety interventions.
  • Collaborate with DCFS, Child Welfare Contributing Agencies (CWCA’s), community providers, and families to coordinate services and supports that address safety concerns and family needs.
  • Monitor caregiver behavior, family interactions, and home conditions to reduce safety threats and support safe parenting practices. Provide supervision, stress reduction support, and behavior-focused interventions to assist caregivers in maintaining safe and stable environments.
  • Respond to family crises, assist families in identifying and implementing stabilization plans, and reinforce caregiver participation in safety planning and supportive services.
  • Provide support, guidance, and connection to social and community resources to reduce caregiver isolation and improve family functioning. Assist caregivers with parenting skills, daily functioning, and basic home management needs related to child safety.
