About the position

The Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA) has been providing exceptional patient and family focused health care and social services to the people of Kodiak Island since 1966. KANA's patient-centered medical home model incorporates Behavioral Health, Dental, and Pharmacy services within the primary care setting to facilitate an advanced support system that ensures our patients' needs are met. KANA also offers Child Services and Youth Prevention programs; Women, Infant and Children (WIC); Vocational Rehabilitation; Employment and Training services; Early Childhood and Infant Learning, and a full service fitness center to support the whole person. For more information about E-Verify, please see the following: View Essential Resources | E-Verify (uscis.gov) Tribal Health Organization family physician caring for a diverse population of tribal members, veterans, and other Kodiak Island community members, dedicated to full-patient care across the age spectrum. Includes clinic, remote village travel, and occasional home visits. Provider may choose to practice inpatient medicine and/or obstetrics. Will develop a patient continuity panel, and care for this panel with colleagues' support. Outpatient care is delivered in a patient centered medical home and a team-based model of care.

Responsibilities

  • Join an engaged and cohesive medical staff supported by a strong and thoughtful leadership team in the delivery of patient-centered care by evidence-based standards.
  • Provide administrative support focused on provider health and support in the context of continuity family medicine.
  • Care for the Kodiak community, with special attention to the Tribal and VA populations.
  • Develop a continuity panel of patients across the age spectrum from newborn to geriatric.
  • Deliver outpatient services in clinic and/or by telemedicine.
  • Attend clinic in remote villages accessible by small plane and conduct occasional home visits.
  • Participate in after hours phone call consultative service for village providers.
  • Participate in inpatient medicine call and/or OB & pediatrics call if desired.
  • Work closely with RNs, MAs, front desk staff, and administrative support staff.
  • Document entries and maintain patient charts in a timely manner.
  • Educate medical students and residents in rotation with other physician colleagues.
  • Utilize EMR (Cerner, Epic) efficiently for communication and chart management.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement projects and activities.
  • Represent KANA positively in all circumstances and engage in community outreach programs.

Requirements

  • Graduation with a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine from a U.S. medical school.
  • Completion of an approved internship/residency in Family Medicine.
  • Permanent and full or unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Alaska.
  • Board Eligible/Board Certified.
  • Must successfully pass the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention (ICPA) background check.
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, and ALSO required.
