About the position
The Family Law Associate Attorney at North Carolina Legal Services (NCLS) is a contract position focused on providing legal representation in family law cases. The role emphasizes compassionate client advocacy, particularly for vulnerable populations, and involves managing a full caseload from consultation to resolution. The attorney will work primarily in a hybrid remote setting, with in-person attendance required for specific legal proceedings.
Responsibilities
- Represent clients in family law cases, including child support, custody, divorce, visitation agreements, and domestic violence protective orders.
- Independently manage a full caseload from consultation through resolution.
- Conduct hearings, mediations, and depositions as required.
- Provide compassionate, skilled client advocacy with a focus on empowering vulnerable populations.
Requirements
- Active membership in the North Carolina Bar Association, in good standing.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience practicing family law, with proven experience in litigation.
- Strong negotiation abilities and clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest law and community service.

- Experience in community engagement and pro bono initiatives.
- Ability to design and lead workshops or educational sessions.
