About the position

The Graphic Design Department at Ringling College of Art and Design is seeking a full-time faculty member to begin in August 2025. This role involves teaching a rigorous curriculum in graphic design, focusing on foundational principles in typography, design, and communication. The successful candidate will provide quality instruction across various media formats and engage in collaborative teaching practices within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a 3/3 studio class course load, totaling three courses or nine credits per semester.
  • Provide quality instruction in the design of visual systems across various media formats, including typography, identity and branding, publication, packaging, environmental display, design for good, social media, and UI/UX.
  • Participate in faculty, department, and college service activities.
  • Engage in collaborative teaching practices, including team teaching and shared course resources.
  • Maintain an ongoing commitment to creative work and scholarship.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field, OR a 4-year professional degree in art or design with equivalent professional experience.
  • An established portfolio of work in graphic design across various media formats, demonstrating expertise in traditional design principles.
  • Client experience or teaching in two or more areas such as typography, branding, publication design, packaging, UI/UX, data visualization, or motion design.

Nice-to-haves

  • MFA in Graphic Design or a related field.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness through examples of student work.
  • Ability to teach across all four years of undergraduate course topics, including introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels.
  • Teaching experience at the college level, including adjunct, graduate assistantships, or workshop teaching positions.
  • Commitment to improving as a designer and/or educator and willingness to collaborate on curriculum development.
