About the position

The Faculty, Chemistry position at Scott Community College involves teaching courses and assessing learning outcomes in assigned chemistry and other physical science classes. The role may include alternative delivery methods, evening courses, and teaching at multiple sites. The faculty member is expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and service, as well as a commitment to the mission and values of the community college. The position is full-time with a contract of 167 days.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches courses in accordance with outcomes identified in the established course development model.
  • Participates in the design of appropriate courses and programs of instruction.
  • Demonstrates satisfactory preparation and meets with classes as scheduled.
  • Establishes a clear and accurate syllabus for each class and communicates course objectives to students.
  • Evaluates and records student performance and achievement on a regular basis.
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate office hours to assist students.
  • Collaborates with support services to assist student success in the classroom.
  • Monitors and communicates with students about academic progress.
  • Participates in outcomes assessment measurements adopted by EICC.
  • Serves on college and district committees, work groups, and task forces.
  • Assists college in the recruitment and retention of students.
  • Demonstrates professionalism at all times.
  • Retains professional qualifications and actively maintains professional development activity.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in chemistry or a Master's Degree in a related field with 12 graduate semester hours in specified chemistry.
  • Community College teaching or training experience is preferred.
  • For Career Technical Programs, education, licensures, certifications, and professional experience must meet State of Iowa requirements.
