About the position

Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) announces an opportunity to work as a full-time, tenure-track faculty member in Biology with a primary assignment in Anatomy and Physiology. Located near the edge of Lake Tahoe, teaching at LTCC gives those interested in Biology many opportunities to enjoy the local ecology and to work with other scientists who enjoy not just teaching, but also the outdoors. The successful candidate will be qualified and willing to teach in the Biology discipline primarily for Anatomy and Physiology which is a face to face modality and requires a presence on campus up to 5 days a week. The Anatomy and Physiology curriculum is geared to equip students with the advanced knowledge and skills necessary for further studies in laboratory sciences, medicine, basic research, or related science professions, including vocational programs such as nursing, kinesiology and respiratory therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in Biology curriculum and, pending minimum qualifications, specifically for Anatomy and Physiology.
  • Participate in full-time faculty responsibilities including faculty and departmental meetings, departmental planning, community liaison, curriculum development, and committee assignments.
  • Observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies and programs of the District.
  • Refer students to appropriate college resources for information on counseling and other student services.
  • Foster a positive working environment that is free from harassment, prejudice and/or bias.
  • Demonstrate a respect for the dignity of everyone.
  • Develop, maintain, and assess student learning outcomes for appropriate courses; participate in and potentially oversee the use of assessments for ongoing improvement.
  • Develop and revise curriculum and maintain a comprehensive instructional program in the Anatomy and Physiology discipline.
  • Select textbooks and/or Open Education Resources.
  • Assist students by providing advice on requirements for successful achievement in the members' area of expertise.
  • Assist with the selection and coordination of part-time faculty in the department as needed.
  • Consult and collaborate with appropriate college faculty.

Requirements

  • Master's in any biological science OR Bachelor's in any biological science AND Master's in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science OR the equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Biology courses at the community college level specifically Anatomy and Physiology.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform all of the responsibilities listed above.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Nice-to-haves

  • The ability to utilize culturally responsive teaching and pedagogy to support students and incorporate innovative teaching practices, including participatory and critical thinking methodologies.
  • Familiarity with characteristics of community college students.
  • An understanding of small college environment.
  • Interest in and ability to incorporate technology in the teaching/learning process.
  • An ability to work independently.
