About the position

The Facility Manager (FM-2) at Foster Elementary School is responsible for supervising custodial staff and ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and maintenance of the school facilities. This role involves administrative tasks related to maintaining school property and equipment, as well as creating a secure learning environment for students and staff. The position requires strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise custodial staff in a facility between 52,501 and 75,000 square feet.
  • Perform housekeeping throughout the building and grounds, including snow removal and lawn maintenance.
  • Communicate with students, staff, community members, and supervisors to ensure a clean and safe environment.
  • Perform preventive and minor maintenance functions and maintain records.
  • Coordinate and schedule school facilities for public and school use and activities.
  • Move heavy equipment, furniture, and warehouse orders.
  • Establish and assign cleaning responsibilities and shifts to custodians.
  • Inspect building and grounds daily for appearance standards, safety, fire hazards, and maintenance needs.
  • Verify proper operation of heating, ventilation, and fire alarm systems.
  • Report maintenance needs to the Facilities Information Center.
  • Keep records for attendance and coordinate custodial staff schedules.
  • Requisition custodial supplies within allocated budget.
  • Train custodial staff in emergency procedures and equipment operations.
  • Select, train, evaluate staff, and initiate corrective actions regarding custodians.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 36 months custodial experience required.
  • 12 months of supervisory experience required.
  • Must have completed the First Line Supervisory Course.
  • Ability to interact positively with students, staff, and community.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in conflict resolution and mediation.
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance and mechanical systems.
