About the position

The City of Woodland is strategically located in California's Sacramento Valley, one of the world's richest agricultural areas. The City has a population of over 60,000 while maintaining its small town appeal, and is the County seat of Yolo County. Woodland is approximately 85 miles northeast of San Francisco and 24 miles northwest of Sacramento, the State Capitol. The City is ideally positioned along Interstate 5 and is also serviced by the Sacramento International Airport, 12 miles to the east. Known as the 'City of Trees', Woodland has 176 acres of parks with a wide variety of athletic fields, which host a myriad of year-round sports activities for youth and adults. The surrounding area offers water skiing and boating on Sacramento River, Lake Berryessa, and Folsom Lake. Winters can be enjoyed skiing at the many fine resorts in the Lake Tahoe area. Woodland is a full-service City and includes the departments of Public Works, Community Development, Finance, Human Resources, Police, Fire, Community Services, Public Library and the City Manager's and City Clerk's Office. In order to maintain a high level of service to our diverse community, the City of Woodland is looking for motivated and qualified applicants to join our current staff of 323 employees, 165 classifications City wide. The City offers a wide variety of positions with room for advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair City buildings, equipment and facilities by performing a variety of semiskilled carpentry, plumbing, painting, heating/air conditioning, mechanical repair and electrical work as necessary.
  • Inspect City buildings to locate conditions indicating the need for repairs and maintenance; assist in establishing and implementing preventative maintenance programs.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of heavy tools and equipment, including small power and hand tools.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Remodel and repair a variety of building components such as counters, tables, desks, bookshelves, cabinets, partitions, walls, windows and doors; boilers, water pumps, exhaust fans, compressors, and other water and sewage system plumbing as required.
  • Perform electrical work such as wiring and rewiring; replace switches, ballast and receptacles as required.
  • Prepare simple activity and related reports; maintain inventory and work records as required.
  • Requisition supplies and materials.
  • Perform general janitorial duties as needed.
  • Perform other facility maintenance duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of work experience in carpentry, electrical and maintenance work is desirable.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License required upon hire.

Benefits

  • The pay cycle is bi-weekly.
  • With the exception of worker's compensation coverage and sick leave accrual, no other benefits compensations are provided.
  • Employees must contribute 1.45% of salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan in accordance with Federal Law.
