About the position

The Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources at North Dakota State University (NDSU) is responsible for leading and delivering educational programs in Wells County, focusing on agriculture and natural resources. This role involves developing, planning, and evaluating research-based programs that address community needs in areas such as crop and livestock management, horticulture, and farm safety. The agent will engage with both youth and adult audiences, promote the 4-H program, and utilize various media for outreach. Flexibility in scheduling is required to accommodate evening and weekend events.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, deliver, facilitate, and evaluate educational programs in agriculture and natural resources.
  • Engage with community members to assess local needs and build networks.
  • Lead the Wells County 4-H program and develop 4-H volunteers.
  • Utilize mass and social media for outreach to youth and adult audiences.
  • Participate in evening and weekend programs as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in agronomy, agricultural economics, animal science, crop science, production agriculture, agribusiness, or agriculture communication; or related experience.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-directed and able to work flexible hours.
  • Familiarity with diverse audiences and an interest in working with people from various backgrounds.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience in recruiting and managing volunteers.
  • Experience in designing and delivering educational programs.
  • Recent experience in Extension work.
  • Knowledge of 4-H and youth programs.
  • Experience with local cropping and farming practices in central North Dakota.
