About the position

The position involves using CAD equipment to support the Engineering department by preparing routine layouts of fire sprinkler systems, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches, and diagrams. The details must include all views and dimensions necessary for installation. The role also requires making copies of drawings and maintaining information regarding changes to the database. While the position allows for simple decision-making, most questions and problems should be referred to lead designers or the chief engineer. A solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with design and fire sprinkler terminology is essential, along with mechanical aptitude and the ability to complete basic mathematical calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Design fire protection sprinkler systems with high accuracy and detail to minimize design errors during field installation.
  • Utilize software applications such as AutoCAD, REVIT, Navisworks, HASS, AutoSPRINK, SprinkCAD, HydraCAD, and HydraList, with training provided for AutoSprink.
  • Understand and work with documents such as NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, and CFC.
  • Calculate figures to convert design dimensions to resizing dimensions for production, layout, and installation processes.
  • Produce graphic representations of designs for review and approval by engineering and design staff.
  • Make final sketches of proposed drawings, checking dimensions, materials, and relationships of parts.
  • Revise size, shape, and arrangement of parts to create practical design drawings.
  • Sketch rough layouts of systems and compute angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages, and hole locations.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, employees, and building/fire departments.
  • Provide evidence of fire sprinkler design experience.

Requirements

  • Experience in designing fire protection sprinkler systems with high accuracy and detail.
  • Familiarity with software applications such as AutoCAD, REVIT, Navisworks, HASS, AutoSPRINK, SprinkCAD, HydraCAD, and HydraList.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, and CFC documents.
  • Proficient in mathematical calculations related to design dimensions.
  • Ability to produce graphic representations of designs for review and approval.
  • Professional attitude and appearance with reliable attendance.
