About the position

The Exhibition Content Manager at the Harvard Museums of Science & Culture (HMSC) is responsible for producing and overseeing exhibit content across four museums. This role involves leading the content development process, ensuring alignment with best practices, and enhancing the visitor experience through interpretive materials. The manager will also handle image acquisition and manage a small team, contributing to the overall mission of fostering an inclusive environment within the museums.

Responsibilities

  • Develop exhibit content for delivery through text, ensuring goals and key messages are established and reviewed.
  • Conduct in-depth research to create interpretive exhibit content, collaborating with team members and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate outreach and communications with content advisors and academic partners.
  • Write, edit, revise, fact-check, and proofread text for exhibit labels and scripts, maintaining style standards.
  • Select and oversee the development of visual and audio content for exhibits, ensuring accessibility and copyright compliance.
  • Manage translation of label text into additional languages as needed.
  • Lead the recruitment, onboarding, and supervision of direct reports and temporary staff.
  • Participate in the installation of exhibit components and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in natural or social sciences, education, nonfiction writing, museum studies, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in researching, organizing material, and writing for a public audience.
  • 2+ years of supervisory and management experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
