About the position

The Executive Director for Orientation and Transition Programs at the University of Texas at Arlington is a leadership role responsible for developing, planning, and implementing a dynamic orientation program for new students and their families. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring a seamless transition for students into university life, collaborating with various departments to enhance student engagement, success, and retention. The Executive Director will oversee a team, manage a significant budget, and contribute to the strategic vision of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, and implement a high-profile, student-centered orientation program for new students and their families.
  • Direct the day-to-day administration of the New Maverick Orientation program within Student Affairs.
  • Supervise professional staff members and administrative staff, including Assistant Directors and Coordinators.
  • Create strategic vision and priorities to support the transition and retention of new students.
  • Oversee the development of departmental assessment plans to determine programmatic learning outcomes.
  • Support the development and implementation of family programming and communication initiatives.
  • Manage orientation registration processes in coordination with Admissions.
  • Liaise with academic leadership to address registration issues and develop orientation schedules.
  • Oversee the recruitment, selection, and training of undergraduate student orientation leader teams.
  • Manage the departmental budget of approximately $1.3 million and conduct regular budget analysis.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, College Student Personnel, or related field.
  • At least five (5) years of Student Affairs or related professional experience, with prior direct work experience in Orientation/First-Year Experience programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Seven (7) or more years of professional experience, with significant experience in orientation/first-year programs.
  • Working familiarity with programs and services for family members and first-generation students.
