About The Position

Join an experienced team of estimators specializing in surface mining projects for processing plants and related infrastructure for a variety of clients across North America. The successful candidate will be responsible for the complete development (from estimate plan to estimate basis) of capital cost estimates, with support from the Estimating Manager. Ranging from conceptual to feasibility studies, you will support estimating efforts by working directly with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure estimate deliverables are met on time. Your problem-solving ability and proactive work approach in a dynamic environment will enable you to successfully meet challenges and effectively contribute to capital cost development for mining projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years of progressive capital cost estimating experience for mining projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in multidisciplinary estimating.
  • Exposure to various types of mining commodities (gold, copper, lithium, nickel, iron, rare earths, etc.).
  • Solid expertise in developing unit rates for processing plant equipment and bulk materials.
  • Ability to present cost estimates to internal and external stakeholders (clients, auditors, reviewers).
  • Degree in engineering, technical, or relevant equivalent program.
  • Proficiency in the MS Office suite, with advanced expertise in Excel for data analysis and management.
  • Knowledge of another language besides French, namely English, as the work produced is intended for audiences located elsewhere in Canada, internationally, or in another region of the world.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in asset management and life cycle cost (LCC).
  • Experience with decarbonization technologies (CCUS, green ammonia).
  • Experience with estimating tools and programming (Excel/Access).

Responsibilities

  • Develop end-to-end capital cost estimates (estimate plan to estimate basis) for different estimate classes (conceptual to definitive) according to AACE standards.
  • Perform multidisciplinary estimates for open-pit mining projects (development, processing plants, and support infrastructure).
  • Apply best practices and estimating methodologies to ensure cost accuracy and schedule adherence.
  • Develop and maintain cost databases (unit rates, benchmarks), including defining labor rates and productivity factors.
  • Prepare key estimating documentation (estimate plans and bases) and perform benchmarking and contingency analyses.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, procurement, construction, and project controls teams.
  • Participate in change management, estimate structuring (WBS, coding), and cost data analysis with Excel.
  • Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating practices, including teamwork, benchmarking, and lessons learned sharing.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation
  • Rewarding recognition
  • Comprehensive flexible benefits package designed to adapt to your health, well-being, financial, and lifestyle needs.
