About The Position

The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for projects. This includes evaluating the full scope of work, such as labour, equipment, materials, subcontractor services, and purchased components. The role ensures all tender submissions are completed accurately and delivered within required deadlines.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction estimating or a related role.
  • Experience working with industry-standard estimating or bidding software.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Candidates must meet applicable employment eligibility requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (or a related field) preferred.
  • Familiarity with municipal, transportation, or infrastructure construction projects is an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant construction standards and specifications is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and tender documents to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs from drawings and contract documents.
  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor inputs.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and incorporate subcontractor and supplier quotations into estimates.
  • Prepare and submit complete tender packages within specified deadlines.
  • Conduct bid reviews, including analysis of subcontractor proposals and internal cost assumptions.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all submitted tenders.
  • Prepare documentation required for bid security and insurance requirements.
  • Maintain organized records and correspondence for all active bids and proposals.
  • Follow up with clients regarding submitted tenders and proposals.
  • Analyze and price potential scope changes, change orders, and claims.
  • Monitor ongoing projects and provide cost tracking, forecasting, and financial evaluations.
  • Offer technical and estimating support to field and project teams as needed.
  • Assist in developing preliminary project schedules for transition to project execution teams.
  • Communicate effectively with field personnel, project teams, and clients.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of estimating processes, procedures, and standards.
  • Participate in additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
