About The Position

The ESOL/ELD Teacher–Interventionist is responsible for delivering targeted English Language Development instruction to students identified as English Learners and for supporting their progress toward English proficiency in accordance with the Arkansas English Language Proficiency Standards. This is a nine and one-half (9.50) – Month Contract Position, (195 days), plus Benefit Package. Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based upon education and experience. This position is reviewed annually and is contingent upon continued funding.

Requirements

  • Valid Arkansas teaching certificate in Elementary Education PK-4.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Expertise and experience related to literacy and second language acquisition is required.
  • Mastery of effective instructional techniques and strategies that lead to improved student achievement in all content areas.
  • Knowledge of implementation of best ESOL practices as well as integrating in a mainstream classroom.
  • Knowledge of interventions appropriate for English language learners and the RTI Process.
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills.
  • Evidence of expert use of technology both at the instructional level and usage level.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and leadership abilities.
  • Conviction that all children can and will learn in the Little Rock School District.

Nice To Haves

  • ESL endorsement and additional work with SIOP I and SIOP II training is desired.
  • Three or more years of recent classroom experience at the elementary level, preference given to work with English language learners.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ELD instruction for K-5 students who are identified as English Learners and or working below English Language proficiency level when the Arkansas English Language Proficiency Standards are applied.
  • Collaborate with ELD teachers in planning daily lessons, analyzing data, and providing appropriate interventions/modifications.
  • Monitor student progress.
  • Support the LPAC: Provide documentation and input for students identified as English Learners.
  • Observe students in their classrooms to ensure transfer and success of ELD Program.
  • Provide small group instruction for students in grades K-5 when in ELD instruction.
  • Communicates student’s progress to parents and teachers as well as instructional leaders in the school.
  • Participates in creating an environment conducive to the learning and growth of all children.
  • Enters data online and prepares reports for school and district.
  • Attends professional development as necessary.
  • Administers Various assessments as well limited to those assessing English Language Proficiency.
  • Collaborate to provide professional development to classroom teachers on effective teaching strategies for students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
