About the position

The ESL Teacher (K-8) position at Wilson County School District is responsible for providing specialized instruction to meet the needs of English as a Second Language (ESL) and Limited English Proficient (LEP) students. The role involves assessing students' proficiency levels, maintaining individual academic records, and collaborating with classroom teachers to implement Individual Learning Plans (ILPs). The teacher will also provide support and resources to general education teachers and participate in ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Provide screening, instruction, evaluation, and assessment for non-English speaking and limited proficiency students.
• Maintain records for each student's individual and academic instructional program.
• Provide periodic written reports to parents regarding their child's progress.
• Refer students to counseling and other support resources as appropriate.
• Assess newly arriving non-English speaking students.
• Confer with classroom teachers regarding each student's Individual Learning Plan and its implementation.
• Participate in in-service and teacher training provided by the district.
• Meet regularly with the ESL Coordinator and other ESL teachers.
• Provide support and resource information to general education teachers.
• Assist in creating and implementing Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
• Attend work regularly and on-time, and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Holds a valid Tennessee teacher's license with appropriate endorsement for teaching ESL classes.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Meets health and physical requirements.
